The Thorp kit itself
is available split into a number of sub-kits, which both ease the number of aircraft parts
to be stored by the kit builder at any one time, and allow the purchase cost to be split
through the build, so that you can "grow into" the aircraft itself.
The Sub Kits are:
After finishing kit
4, the builder has to decide which of the engine options to choose. There are currently
two choices, although in the future other engines will become available:
Option 1:The standard Teledyne
Continental 0-200 engine, as fitted to the production aircraft. This is 1881b of tried and
tested aero-engine. With a direct drive at a max. cont. power of 100hp at 2750 rpm, the 4
cylinder 0-200 is among the most trusted and reliable engines in the world.
 |
Option 2: The Jabiru 3300. The Jabiru 3300 is a 6-cylinder, 4-stroke, horizontally opposed air
cooled engine. DM Aerospace are currently working with Mike Robins Aviatechnic to complete
the necessary modifications, and the engine should be available for the Thorp aircraft in
the early part of 1999. |
The choice of engine will influence
the modifications needed to Kit 5, and so must be defined before Kit 5 is ordered.
